Hotel Fairmont at the Airport

One of kind hotel experience
We have stayed in some interesting places but never have we stayed in the lap of luxury while in the middle of one of the most un-luxurious places you can be….the Airport!
The Fairmont Airport is located inside the Vancouver International Airport, YVR. Even with it’s interesting location the second you step onto the walkway it is apparent you are entering the world of Fairmont Hotels.
Obviously being located in an airport will have it’s challenges and I am sure one of them is the odd arrival times. We did arrive early to check in. They were just “putting the finishes on our room” take note other hotel front desks. This is much nicer than saying it’s “almost ready”. As they were finalizing the room we opted for cocktails and crab cakes in the lounge. Something you realize about this hotel pretty quick is they take full advantage of the unique location. The lounge, the gold floor rooms and even our hotel room had large windows with full views of the planes landing and taking off.
The Gold Floor
Travellers tip, if you are an Aeroplan plan member and at the diamond level you can get a code to upgrade at Fairmont Hotels. You may also get an additional chance to upgrade. Thanks to these couple of opportunities we were able to reserve a room on the Gold Floor. If you haven’t stayed on a Fairmont Gold Floor DO IT! It is worth every penny. Private front desk, dedicated concierge and your own lounge, dinning room and even private entrances at some hotels.
The Gold Floor at the Fairmont Hotel was no exception to this exception level of travelling. Once we settled in we stopped for a nice single malt scotch at the honour bar in our private lounge and watched some more planes take off.
The Lounge
As I mentioned above we took some time in the main hotel while they did the final preparations on our room. The cocktails and crab cakes were fantastic and the service, as it always is at Fairmont, was exceptional.
The Final Thoughts
If you are you are looking for an interesting high end hotel stay that really “Takes Off” then try the Fairmont at the Airport in Vancouver.
